Women can have regular cycles and periods without effectively ovulating.  A period indicates a shedding of the lining of the uterus, but not necessarily ovulation, which is required for conception.   The lining of the uterus grows in response to estrogen, which is produced by the ovaries.

Progesterone is released from the egg and ovary only with ovulation, and the more effective the ovulation the more progesterone there is to hold a pregnancy.  So progesterone is a hormone that both indicates fertility and ability to hold the pregnancy! As progesterone is not needed for growth of the uterine lining, a period is not an indicator of ovulation or your ability to get pregnant.

Naturopathic Doctors are trained to assess hormone balance and can help you become your healthiest you for fertility!
